We’re preggers.
We’ve known for a while now, but it’s hard to know when to let others in on such a thing. But now that we’re in the 2nd tri, seems safer. Dunno if it’s a boy or a girl yet, but here’s roughly what it looks like:

Baby-ish, no?

We’ve been off to Paris and back, and then (kids in tow) off to St. Louis and back. A few highlights from each. Keep in mind how difficult it is to say anything about one’s first trip to Paris without sounding either naively cliché or obnoxiously blasé. I will therefore leave out references to art and food. Assume the best.
Parisian highlights:
1. Actually walking along streets and rivers I read about when I was an adolescent, with a woman I’m in love with. Honestly better than I’d imagined it could be.
2. Communicating a little with French people, despite my abysmal grades way back when. High school French win!
3. Being borderline conned by a beggar along the Left Bank, crossing the river while discussing whether it was a con, and then seeing a woman pull the exact same trick on another couple. I will detail the story another time. Hilarious, since we held on to our wallets/jewelry/etc.
4. Waking up to accordion music.
5. Taking communion in Notre Dame.
Other stories will have to wait.
St. Louis highlights:
1. Watching fireworks under the arch with the little ones. Supercool.
2. The zoo. Impressive place. Free admission.
3. Breakfast at the Rooster.
4. Dinner at Smoki O’s. And the kids were troupers.
5. The City Museum. Seriously the most amazing public space for kids I can imagine.
All for now. More later. Good to be home.

Yesterday, during the previews for Monsters vs. Aliens… or Aliens vs. Monsters, I forget… the Where the Wild Things Are trailer came on. The kids had seen it already, but I thought they’d be excited to see it on the big screen. When it finished, my almost-four-year-old son turned to me and said, in a world-weary tone, “It isn’t like the book.”
Gotta get him a blog.
