img_0154Just got back from the game about an hour ago, and I haven’t come down yet. My prediction was not far off: we kept them mostly to field goals, and managed to get Greene going just enough. It was actually an ugly game for Iowa in the first half, with the exception of the first possession for both teams. But our defense was phenomenal the whole game, bending but not breaking. Mitch King was terrific, and played cheerleader during the commercial breaks in the fourth quarter, more than once waving his arms, imploring the crowd to stay loud to throw off the Penn State offense.

A game like this is why you keep going to the games. Even when your team keeps turning the ball over, when you’re not sure your team has a decent quarterback, when they keep losing close games and you keep losing your mind over it. Then they beat the third-ranked team in the country.

The crowd was something to behold, as you can see from this shot taken from my seat in the West stands, even if they were one tick of the clock early in rushing the field. There were more than a few old guys who’d been coming to games a long time waiting for this. I know my dad and I will remember it for a long time.
